Liz Dieatrick grew up in a fundamentalist Assemblies of God family, where she was groomed from birth for missionary work. Her childhood was marked by intense religious scrupulosity and OCD, driven by fears of hell. After studying missions and surviving life-threatening illnesses on overseas trips, she joined the Live Dead missions movement, where she faced deceptive practices, coercive pressure, and dangerous security training. Her faith was further tested when her father was arrested in a sex sting, which she initially spiritualized as an attack from Satan. Eventually, financial struggles, restrictive rules, and burnout led to a suicide attempt, which prompted her to seek therapy and begin deconstructing her faith. She slowly left Christianity after years of examining biblical inconsistencies and logical problems in core doctrines. Now, Liz works as an improv actress and runs a YouTube channel critiquing pastors, and she reflects on the profound grief of losing her community and family, while finding healing with her brother who shares her deconstruction journey.
