A podcast host receives a cryptic message from a man in a small Alabama town, alleging a murder cover-up involving a wealthy family. The investigation that follows reveals a complex web of local secrets, personal despair, and a community's silence.
The host, Brian Reed, is contacted by John B. McLemore, who claims that a wealthy family's son, Cabram Burt, killed a local teen, Dylan Nichols, and escaped justice. John describes his town, Woodstock, as corrupt and impoverished. During a visit, John shows Brian his hedge maze and expresses deep depression and isolation. Despite John's detailed timeline of the alleged murder, Brian finds no evidence online or in local records. John's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, leading Brian to question his motives. However, an interview with Skylar Goodson confirms that her husband, Jake, bragged about killing a man, revealing the murder is an open secret in the town, with many complicit in hiding it.
